  1. Install custom post popup via the WordPress plugin directory or by uploading the files to your server at wp-content/plugins.

  2. After activating custom post popup, use this shortcode wherever you want [CUSTOM_POST_POPUP type="post" orderby="none" posts_per_page="12" customclass="custom class"].

Does not display custom posts, only regular WP posts. WP Posts Popup does a better job. https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-post-modal/
